I am a traditional potter in Bantam Connecticut . I make a lot of flowerpots for historical gardens . My apprenticeships were at older shops in North Carolina , Wales and Northern England . In those communities I started playing " Home made music" . on : Banjo first then Anglo concertina then open tuning guitar .I am so busy as a potter that I am using youtube as the place to meet other musicians who like playing the same kind of music I enjoy .. East Virginia AC12A Guy Wolff
I am having so much fun with this little AC12 /A Goldtone . Here is one I have always done in G Sus4 or Sawmill tuning but I wanted to try it up at E in double c tuning .In other words I tuned the banjo to open double D and capoed up 2 frets to E for my voice .. This banjo is just amazing .Goldtone AC12/A . I hope everyone can get a chance to get one (even as an extra banjo ) I learned this song from the great Lilly May Ledford's playing and my old friend Bonnie Kumer who played this in the early 2000's for me ..

I did this fast take on "The FLowers Of The Forest" on Mountain Dulcimer for a freind doing a film up in Northumbria on one of the castles that were active around the battle of Flodden in 1513 .. I love this "bagpipe" Tuning for Dulcimer .It is basically a low D for the bass string and one octive higher 3 D 's for all the reast ... Here is one to just show clawhammer can get used on modern songs .I am playing my new Goldtone AC12/ a in double d tuning up 2 frets at E bEBEF# . THe intonation on this thing is impecable .I have to remember not to over push on the third string fifth fret as it can come up sharp . Every instrument has things to remember .. I love this thing .. I just put the renasaunce head and a regular bridge back on my Custom Goldtone and added for the first time steel strings .It is an amazing combination and perfect for stage work .Great tone and intonation . I am working this up for opening a local fiddle contest near by me in Roxbury Ct :)

Here is a version of one my brother Peter did back in the early 1960 ..Originally from the Delmore Brothers 1933 I think .. I am playing this out of a C tuning (gCGCD) at the second fret being D (aDADE ) ... SO much fun playing blues on this little A scale banjo .It is a Goldtone AC12/A

Here is one I used to do in the clubs with Lui Collins all those years ago .. I always wanted to try it in Banjo and playing around with this new Goldtone AC12 A seemed like a great fit .. This ia a quick first review on the Goldtone AC12/A .I got the A scale so I could tune up to double E and maybe even double F :) .. THis is a wonderful banjo at any price .. We are going to see many of these around over the next 20 years :) I can not recomend this banjo enough ..

The battle of Flodden Field 1513 is the inspiration for this lament .With all the disorder in the world at the moment it is another reminder of the sad realities of war . I am playing a Goldtone OT6 set up with minstrel strings at dGDGA . As a young adult I had a year or two trying Scottish bagpipes and thats why I use doublings a lot in my clawhammer playing . Very glad it is appropriate here .

I think Paul had a real love affair with 1920 's love songs ..The Intro is so wonderful I played it twice .SOrry I am trying to do this as Bertie Wooster might have found it in the mid 1920's . Nice to hear you on dulcimer, Guy, and a nice tranquil tune at that. Nothing wrong with the clacking. I like it. I tend to be a clacker myself when I play (I like thin picks for dulcimer).
Thanks Noah ... This one is for use in a motorcyclist's video clip of the castles used after the battle of Flodden in Northumbria .. Yep for the purcusive thing I was after the thin pick that came with the McSpadden Dulcimer seemed just right ... I bought this dulcimer for my daughter ..SHe never really got into it but I am very happy to have it in the music room .. I do wish we lived closer :) Not many people I would rather play with !

The mikeing is a little choppy but it is what I could get with the percusive performance .If it would be more usfull I can try again .I liked it over all for story telling .It wont hurt my feelsings if it is not useful though. :) Just let me know and I will give it another go ... Lots of fun to do ..

I am just about to use "Flowers of the Forest " for our local banjo contest on Saturday . My pottery teacher who left us in late winter at 100 years old was of Scotish heritage so I am doing it for her ,,, I will add an instrumental version here in the next day if it can be of any help . I got the AC-12 standard, not A scale and it should be here today. Got it as my first banjo so we'll see. I'm such agreenie but it sounds so pretty. This is one of the few videos that sold me on it over the AC-1 as my starter especially as I want to learn clawhammer. Hoping the action isn't too high out of the box for me. Couldn't get mine from GT directly as they are out of stock, likely super popular right now, so had to order third party from Guitar Center. Here's wishing me luck! Totally blind over here too, so that adds a new layer of challenge and so far no local teachers, but I've got some decent resources to start out hopefully strong! Thanks for this.

I love this! Would you know of a resource that teaches this type of pottery decoration, or even something that has recipes for making the slips as well as the pouring cups? Thanks for any suggestions you may have.
I just save my stoneware slip from the wheel and add copper to it for the green and iron to the red clay slip .White stoneware slip for white .All this happens on wet clay after drying the pots are glazed and fired at cone 02 .All the best , Guy
